Goodbye to Snow - Hello to Spring !!!

       SPRING 2011 NEWSLETTER

FROM THE DESK OF BILL HODGE

HAPPY SPRING, IT IS FINALLY HERE!

RECAP OF 2010 & THE START OF 2011

We had a serious problem with grubs in September thru October 2010.  If you did not put down a preventive application to control grubs, you probably ended up with a grub problem. Skunks digging up your yard and grass

lifting up like a carpet, are signs that grubs are eating the roots of your grass. This year I recommend that you do have a grub control application.  The cost is whatever you pay for a regular application.  This would be an extra service that you need to sign up for. Please call or email to schedule.

WHAT DOES YOUR LAWN NEED NOW?

Snow and dampness can cause snow mold.  Snow mold appears as a matted down grass that is brown.  It does not kill the grass most of the time.  You can lightly rake up the matted down areas of grass to get some air circulation.  We can core aerate the lawn which would help to get air and fertilizer to the roots.  Most often with proper fertilization, the lawn will recover without doing any reseeding.  Please call Jump Start Lawncare, Inc. at (440)235-9694 or email us @ jumpstartlawncare@yahoo.com  if you have any questions.

To help prevent snow mold next year, your last grass cutting should be short.  All leaves should be removed from your lawn before the first snowfall.

CORE AERATION ~ loosens hard compacted soil that results in deeper, thicker, healthier and stronger turf grass roots, reduces water run off and puddles on lawn, allows air, water and nutrients to get down into soil, provides good environment for overseeding.  Helps lawn recover from snow mold.  Starting at $49 for lots under an acre.

THATCHING ~ thatch that is greater than ½ inch prevents water and fertilizer from reaching root zone, starting at $65.

SLICE SEED ~ replaces thin turf with new improved better grasses, cutting grooves/lines into soil ¾ inch deep, then machine drops seed into grooves.  This will make your thin lawn thick and beautiful again. Starting at $100.

GOLD PROGRAM VS. STANDARD PROGRAM

GOLD PROGRAM consists of  5 applications of balanced dry, fertilizer, pre-emergent crabgrass control, broad leaf weed control and preventive grub control applied once per year that will eliminate grubs eating the roots of your lawn guaranteed.  Preventive surface insect control application once per year will help to keep chinch bugs, sod webworms, ants, ticks, and fleas out of your lawn.  We also recommend that core aeration be done in the spring or fall to prevent thatch build-up, stimulate growth, and to allow fertilizer, air and water to get down into the soil by the root zone.  Thatching can also be done it the

thatch in your lawn exceeds 1 inch in the spring or fall.

STANDARD PROGRAM  has 5 applications of balanced dry, fertilizer, pre-emergent crabgrass control, broad leaf weed control.

Some yards never have thick green turf because of the grass planted, maybe a shade grass planted in a sunny area.  Slice seeding or aeration with over-seeding can help, (instead of replacing your lawn).

New Services for 2011

March/April/May

Spring deep root fertilization: Our program utilizes the most advanced fertilizer on the market which increase the overall vigor and flowering on your landscape.  Fertilizer is injected under high pressure approximately 6 inches deep around drip line of tree where feeder roots are located.

Bed Maintenance Program

  • Apply bed control product in early spring to help prevent weeds from germinating.

  • Prune shrubs in early spring before buds break thru.  Prune again in August or September.  If you prune too late in the season, new growth is forced and may cause the shrub to die.

  • Cut back perennials, ornamental grasses, and clean out beds of debris.

  • Edge beds and around trees to that you are ready for mulching.

Let our certified arborist maintain your flowerbeds and shrubs so that they stay healthy.  This will rejuvenate old declining plants by removing older wood so young growth can develop.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR REFERRALS!

Referrals are a great way to let us know that you appreciate our work! We do appreciate our customers and would like to extend a discount to you.  Please refer to us a fertilizing customer and receive $25 off core aeration (1/2 off reg. price) or $20 off one fertilizing application.  Thank you for your referrals! Some of our other services include tree and shrub program, bed maintenance, pruning, new lawn installation, lawn restoration, core aeration, thatching, grass cutting, mulching and snow removal.
